Is Anxiety Affecting Your Ability To Function And Enjoy Life?

Are you living in a constant state of tension and worry that drains you of the energy to manage day-to-day tasks? Do you have trouble getting out of bed, motivating yourself, or navigating even the most mundane responsibilities because of a deep sense of dread or apprehension?

Perhaps you spend so much energy putting on a good face, simply trying to “get by,” that you’re always exhausted, but somehow you can’t even find peace in sleep.

Or maybe anxiety shows up as self-doubt or feelings of inadequacy, which causes problems at work, in relationships, or in your social life—and you’re hoping therapy can offer some relief.

Anxiety Can Wear Many Different Faces

At times, you may get caught up in a loop of negative, racing thoughts that feel threatening and overwhelming. You may struggle with low-self esteem, low-self worth, or even depression—as it and anxiety often go hand in hand.

Other times, anxiety may affect you physically, manifesting as sleep issues, nausea, elevated heart rate, and overall fatigue. You may even experience panic attacks that rob you of your sense of control and prevent you from fully engaging in your life.

Anxiety can damage nearly every aspect of a person’s existence, but therapy truly can offer support and relief. At My Time Counseling, our compassionate, holistic approach to anxiety treatment can support you in healing so you can better manage panic attacks, feel more confident, and move through this life with less trepidation.

Anxiety Is An Increasing Prevalent Health Concern Worldwide

In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that since the start of the COVID pandemic, rates of both anxiety and depression have increased by 25 percent.¹ And though everyone has their own way of dealing with anxiety, it’s easy—even normal—for it to become unmanageable alone, which is why working with a therapist can be so beneficial.

What Causes Anxiety And Why Is It Difficult To Tackle Without Support?

Some people are just highly sensitive or anxious—and that’s how they’ve always been. Others develop anxiety as a result of a genetic predisposition, stress, trauma, or a difficult life transition. Even relationship issues and work responsibilities can trigger fears of inadequacy: Do I deserve this job? Am I good enough for my partner? Am I doing enough?

For most people, seeing through the constant worry and self-doubt is almost impossible because it’s hard to objectively analyze thoughts and feelings when you’re in their midst. Working with a counselor gives you a neutral third party who can offer you perspective and clarity on your anxiety, where it originates from, and what you can do to minimize its impact.

Anxiety Therapy Offers You Time And Space To Find Your Voice

The first step in the healing process is understanding the root thoughts and feelings underlying anxiety so you can identify and address the real problem. That’s why therapy is so important: it gives you space and permission to voice your feelings and express concerns in ways that you may never have had a chance to before.

Through that guided introspection, you can learn what drives your anxiety and develop healthier, more effective coping strategies for managing symptoms and healing in the long term. Ultimately, rather than doling out solutions, we’re here to sit with you in the muck and messiness of life—to provide support and impartial insight as we navigate our way, together, through the rough patches.

Our Philosophy And Approach To Anxiety Treatment

Once we meet, we’ll discuss your perspective on your experience with anxiety, how it’s impacting your life, and what you would like to achieve through therapy. We can explore when your distress started, what makes it worse, and if any precipitating event or underlying family medical history could be responsible. If trauma or a painful experience from your past comes up, we can gently address that as well.

We believe that trust is the foundation of good therapy and that simply having a space to bring your pain is invaluable. So rather than assigning homework, pathologizing, or adhering to the strict application of therapeutic modalities, we tend to be more laid back. We want to provide a place where you can express yourself, be yourself, and bounce ideas around—looking for solutions that speak to you.

That said, we have several therapeutic tools at our disposal for targeting specific aspects of anxiety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT for anxiety, enables us to challenge inaccurate thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that either arise from the condition or help drive it.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a branch of CBT, helps clients process painful memories and change negative thoughts and behaviors influenced by trauma and adversity. We can also approach things from a solution-focused perspective, collaborating on setting goals and making the improvements that are most important to you.

Anxiety Doesn’t Have To Prevent You From Enjoying Your Life

With the help of our therapists at My Time Counseling, you can uncover the motivating factors behind anxiety and develop practical tools for dealing with symptoms on a conscious level. Instead of spiraling out of control when negative thoughts or a panic attack surfaces, our mindfulness-based approach to anxiety treatment teaches you how to self-soothe and bring yourself back to your body.

Using the tools and self-awareness you’ll gain through our work together, it is possible to heal. You can learn to move through this world with more confidence, greater resolve, and the capacity to overcome anxiety—and whatever life throws at you.

Perhaps You Are Considering Anxiety Therapy But Still Have Some Concerns…

I worry about divulging certain things about myself.

That’s a completely understandable concern, which is why trust is such a huge component of our healing process. Before we dig into anything too deep, we want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. That means providing you with a safe space in which to share your story at your own pace with people who truly care and will validate your experiences without judgment.

Will therapy really help my anxiety?

We’ve been helping clients reclaim their lives from fear and doubt for years, and we know that with support, change is possible. In fact, anxiety disorders are highly treatable—especially when using evidence-based treatment methods like solution-focused therapy and CBT for anxiety.

Once you understand your anxiety and possess the necessary tools, you can start living with greater lightness, optimism, and confidence in what you are capable of.
